Character Information

Character Name: Amaterasu
Character Series: Okami
Character Age: Well over 100. She looks like a wolf in her prime, though.
Character Gender: Female
Original Canon
Canon Point: The end of Okami, but before Ammy leaves for the Celestial Plain.
Background Link: http://okami.wikia.com/wiki/Amaterasu
Personality: Amaterasu is a divine wolf who serves as guardian of the land of Nippon during the events of Okami. Kind, hard-working, and patient, she toils mostly in obscurity to defend humans against a strange, shadowy darkness that blights the land and gives birth to terrible demons, as the citizens of Nippon no longer believe in gods and can thus only see her as a common wolf or dog (albeit one whose presence seems to signify good luck). Because of a combination of the people's diminished faith, as well as her own death in the name of protecting Nippon 100 years ago, Amaterasu is no longer quite the divinely powerful goddess she used to be. Despite this, she goes to great lengths to restore the land and its citizens, giving life to failing plants, hunting down thieves and roaming monsters, braving snowstorms and ancient ruins, and even helping people find their lost pets. She seems to especially have a soft spot for wild animals; she regularly purchases bags of meat, fish, or plants to feed them.

Which is not to say she's a perfect person. Amaterasu retains many animal-like traits and in many cases, seems more like a dog than a benevolent goddess. For example, she'll indulge in the urge to dig up people's gardens, gobble up food lying on the ground, engage in the occasional petty theft, and have squabbles for dominance with other canids. She seems to have a bit of a competitive streak, too -- Amaterasu will rarely turn down a challenge to fight, even from old friends. She also tends to have a short attention span, becoming distracted or even falling asleep while people are speaking to her. And, of course, she loves a good party.

Amaterasu's intelligent enough to solve puzzles without the use of hands, so she's definitely smarter than the average wolf, but she tends to be a little on the trusting side -- at least one major enemy takes advantage of this trait by killing and then posing as one of Amaterasu's allies. She even trusts the prophecies of an acquaintance of hers enough to wait for a hundred years for the birth of the 'chosen one' that he predicted would bring an end to the demon Orochi -- with no proof that he was right other than his status as a member of the Moon Tribe (and perhaps Amaterasu's own appraisal of his character). For the most part, though, her nature serves her well, allowing her to befriend and work with even initially hostile or antagonistic partners.
Abilities: Amaterasu is a god that appears in the shape of a wolf, with the ability to wield divine mirrors, swords, and beads as weapons in battle. She can also perform 'divine miracles' (basically magic) with her Celestial Brush, mostly revolving around nature-themed abilities like growing trees, manipulating fire, creating gusts of wind, etc.

As a god, Amaterasu derives her powers from the people she protects -- the more they believe in her, the stronger she can become. However, in Okami's timeline, most people don't really believe in gods and are unable to see Amaterasu as anything but an ordinary white wolf. When she walks on grassy areas, ethereal flowers spring up in a trail behind her... but no one really seems to notice.

A full list of brush techniques is here:
http://okami.wikia.com/wiki/Celestial_Brush_Techniques

She also has the Lucky Mallet, Fire Tablet, and Water Tablet items, which allow her to shrink down to about an inch tall, swim through lava while slowly sustaining damage, and walk on water, respectively.

Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
Amaterasu is a divine wolf who serves as guardian of the land of Nippon during the events of Okami. Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:

Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):

If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Amaterasu is a god that appears in the shape of a wolf, with the ability to wield divine mirrors, swords, and beads as weapons in battle. She can also perform 'divine miracles' (basically, magic) with her Celestial Brush, mostly revolving around nature-themed abilities like growing trees, manipulating fire, creating gusts of wind, etc.

Sigh.

She also has the Lucky Mallet, Fire Tablet, and Water Tablet items, which allow her to shrink down to about an inch tall, swim through lava while slowly sustaining damage, and walk on water, respectively.

Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here):
Amaterasu is an accomplished digger and jumper. She is unable to communicate with ordinary humans except with body language and canine vocalizations, and seems more or less resigned to having people call her 'pup', 'Snowball', 'doggie', or the like. However, she seems able to at least understand certain animals, and those attuned to the gods, like the Poncle tribe, can understand and interpret for her.
